The Keauhou Farmers Market is hosting a special Farmer Chef Presentation the last Saturday of each month at 10:00am at the Keauhou Shopping Center. Meet the Farmer, Meet the Chef - learn how the Farmer grew the featured produce, watch the Chef prepare it, and taste the results. Free Buy Fresh and Buy Local as you experience seasonal locally grown fruits and vegetables presented by the Keauhou Farmers Market Farmers and featured Regional Chefs. "What is it? Who grew it? and What do you do with it?"

The program merges the knowledge of the farmer and chef and offers it to the community and visitors. It also supports our local farming community in a consumer based educational program that focuses on new foods and locally grown agricultural products and product applications. Consumers share their experiences and educate others to grow and help sustain agriculture and eat locally grown food - wherever they live. We honor Hawaii's people and it's rich cultural resources of the land and sea by buying locally and eating fresh. The local farmers benefit by the knowledge the consumer has gained regarding locally grown products and their purchasing power at farmers markets and roadside stands. The consumer benefits from knowing how to use the locally grown products, how they came to the market, and how to use them in their everyday lives. The Regional Chef benefits by being able to purchase locally grown products and feature them on their menus representing Hawaii - all helping to support the local farming community. For our first presentation, Farmer, Ken Love of Love Family Farms and Chef Devin Lowder of Makalii Catering yielded avocado cheesecake with jaboticaba cream topping and Kona Rangpur Lime dressing on organic salad greens. There are over 200 varieties of avocados grown on the Island of Hawaii. The Kona Rangpur Lime is often mistaken for a very sour mandarin orange when if fact it is a lime. Chef Lowder offered recipes for his Chicken Avocado Soup and Kona Rangpur Lime and Honey Dressing. Ribs marinated in Kona Rangpur Lime are available from Chef Lowder at the market. For February, Deb and Paul Sims of Sweet Spirit Farms awed the audience with their giant lilikoi - passiflora quadrangularis and Tahitian Squash. Sous Chefs Art Mangayayum and Maui Akeo of the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort offered up their experience and prepared Tahitian Squash Raviolis with Curry Coconut Sauce, Giant Lilikoi Mousse and Lilikoi Dressing for fresh vegetables. Look for the Squash Raviolis on the new menu at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort.

Mahalo to The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA), the County of Hawaii, Keauhou Resort, the American Culinary Federation, Kona Kohala Chefs de Cuisine, the Kona County Farm Bureau and the Keauhou Farmers Market farmers for co-sponsoring this program.

Starting this January, on the last Saturday of every month, buy fresh and buy local as you experience seasonal locally grown fruits and vegetables prepared at the Keauhou Farmers Market by featured Regional Chefs.
